Ceramic Engineering (CRE)

Ceramic Engineering undergraduate course is a new engineering specialty that includes the generation and production of ceramic commodities used in various enterprises, home furnishing, designing, etc. Being one of the most unique disciplines of engineering, research is one of the important elements of this course. This engineering field emerges from the science and technology of creating objects from inorganic, i.e. non-metallic materials. This is done either by the action of heat or at lower temperatures, using precipitation reactions from high-purity chemical solutions. The term includes the purification of raw materials, the study and production of the chemical compounds concerned, their formation into components, and the study of their structure, composition, and properties.

The special character of ceramic materials gives rise to many applications in materials engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, and mechanical engineering. As ceramics are heat resistant, they can be used for many tasks for which materials like metal and polymers are unsuitable. Ceramic materials are used in a wide range of industries, including mining, aerospace, medicine, refinery, food and chemical industries, packaging science, electronics, industrial and transmission electricity, and guided lightwave transmission.

The Senior Secondary passed student needs to appear for JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced) examinations to get into this engineering branch. To get admission to the top colleges like IITs the candidate needs to secure a good rank in the JEE (Advanced) examination. The candidates interested in becoming ceramic engineers should have a sound knowledge of the processes and rules of working with a variety of ceramic materials.
