Mechatronics is a design process and Mechatronics Engineering multidisciplinary engineering branch which integrates the classical fields of mechanical, electrical engineering, mathematics, and computer science/information technology. Mechatronics is centred on mechanics, electronics, computing, control engineering, molecular engineering (from nano chemistry and biology) and optical engineering which, combined, make possible the generation of simpler, more economical, reliable and versatile systems. Its application areas range from power systems to transportation to optical telecommunications to biomedical engineering. An industrial robot is a prime example of a mechatronics system as it includes aspects of electronics, mechanics, and computing to do its day-to-day jobs. A mechatronics engineer unites the principles of mechanics, electronics, and computing to generate a simpler, more economical and reliable system. The term was coined from mechanics and electronics.
The job profiles offered to Mechatronics Engineer are as follows: Robotics Technicians, Robotics Test Engineers, Robotics Systems Engineer, Robotics specialists, Analysts, Researchers
Graduates can take up careers in a wide spectrum of industries including robotics, aerospace, defence, automotive and manufacturing, as well as in businesses that require extensive computer support, such as banking and commerce.
