Aeronautical engineers tend to specialize in one or more of the areas above, but they also often work together with other specialists. Some areas of employment in this field include fuel efficiency testing, air frame design, engine design, flight testing, and investigating airplane crashes. Other jobs include gathering information through test flights, interpreting aircraft performance data, supervising the assembly of aircraft and missiles, analysing the environmental impacts of flights, and assessing the potential risks of new aircraft designs. Training for aeronautical engineering varies regionally, but almost always includes a graduate degree. Some universities offer degrees in this field specifically, but degrees in related fields like mathematics, physics, and mechanical engineering can be useful as well. Aeronautical Engineering is the primary branch of engineering concerned with the research, design, development, construction, testing, science and technology of aircraft and spacecraft. It is divided into two major and overlapping branches: Aerospace engineering and aeronautical engineering. Aeronautics deals with aircraft that operate in Earth’s atmosphere, and astronautics deals with spacecraft that operate outside the Earth's atmosphere. Aerospace Engineering deals with the design, construction, and study of the science behind the forces and physical properties of aircraft, rockets, flying craft, and spacecraft. The field also covers their aerodynamic characteristics and behaviours, air foil, control surfaces, lift, drag, and other properties.
Opportunity
An aeronautical, or aerospace, engineer applies scientific and technological principles to research, design, develop, maintain and test the performance of: civil and military aircraft, missiles, weapons systems, satellites, Space vehicles. They also work on the different components that make up these aircraft and systems.
The role is focused on improving flight safety, fuel efficiency, speed and weight, as well as reducing system costs and using advancing technologies to meet customer needs. Increasingly, the role addresses the environmental impact of air travel.
Job Opportunity
Aeronautical Development Establishment, Air India, Civil Aviation Department, Defence Research and Development Laboratories, Helicopter Corporation of India, Hindustan Aeronautical Ltd (HAL), National Aeronautical Lab (NAL), Pawan Hans.
