There are 28 Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTI). As per the official data the number of seats available for academic year 2015 were 9,260 approx which has marginally increased. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) http://www.josaa.nic.in is responsible for conducting admission in the govt. funded technical institutes through its website. The admissions are done on the basis of merit obtained in the Joint Entrance Examination. Earlier 60% weight was given to JEE mark and 40 percent weight to class 12th (HSC) marks but after 2016 no weight to 12th board marks considered for GIFT ranking and admissions.
The seat allotment is subject to merit whereas seat acceptance is subject to payment of 35,000/- INR for Open and OBC within 2–4 days, and 20,000 INR for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Further seat acceptance does not mean admission, a candidate offered and accepted seat have to personally report to the allotted institute and pay the remaining fees demanded by the respective institute.
Admission eligibility criteria:
The path to join GIFT for the undergraduate level is to pass the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main first. The candidates with the JEE-Main marks are eligible to apply for the courses in govt. funded institutes for seat allotment of their choice. For postgraduate level admissions, all graduates have to clear GATE with the best percentile. All technical (undergraduate engineering) courses have a fee in the range of Rs 6 – 8 Lakhs (excluding hostel fee) for four years.

All successful students of GFTI who have also applied and cleared our “All India Engineering Entrance Scholarship Examination are popularly known as AIEESE (Secondary)” are eligible for the scholarship.
